New GOFC President
The GOFC Gavel of Power Has Been Passed!
Retired GOFC President, Capt. Sanford Boye
New GOFC President, Capt. Mark Rustemier
The club ran like a well oiled machine under the vigilant leadership of Capt. Sanford Boye. Sanford brought CEO-like management skills to club events, and just the right amount of Capt. Ahab to the potentially unruly board meetings (you troublemakers know who you are). It was a pleasure to work with Sanford!
Hey Capt. Boye, thanks for keeping the club on a true course this year...it's been a hoot!
But fear not, because the doctor is in! Our new club Prez, Capt. Mark Rustemier, supports his fishing addiction as a man of medicine. In fact, legend has it that Mark once performed on-the-water surgery with nothing more than a pair of pliers, a rusty bait knife, 80# fluorocarbon leader, and a dirty towel. Mark is also an expert angler (boat name is FishSlayer...nuf said) with grouper skills keen enough to put your humble webmaster on fish. Not content to rest on past laurels, Mark recently added the Offshore Squealer award to his trophy case...you'll have to ask Capt. Peacock about that one, I think it's a Key West thingy. This will be a great year!
All Hail our new leader, Capt. Mark Rustemier!!

GOFC Rule Changes for 2010
The GOFC Board voted to change several rules relating to the John Ellett Contest. The following rule changes will go into effect on January 1, 2010:
- The one pound minimum weight for Ellett Contest entries has been removed. All entries must comply with Florida Recreational Saltwater Fishing Regulations as posted on www.myfwc.com.
- Two additional species were added to the Ellett Contest. The bluefish has been added as an inshore species, and the greater amberjack (commonly referred to as amberjack) has been added as an offshore species. Bluefish weighing 3 pounds or greater, and amberjack weighing 25 pounds or greater must be weighed on Florida or GOFC certified scales, otherwise they will be credited at only 2 lbs 15 oz and 24 lbs 15oz, respectively.
- There is now no limit on the number of times the John Ellett Award can be won by a member.
- Regarding Ellett Contest Bonus Points: members will be awarded 3 bonus points for participation in each major club tournament (Spring and Fall Tournaments) and 1 bonus point for participation in each funament. The member must weigh-in a fish or sign-in at the event to receive points. It is the member’s responsibility to let the Tournament or Learnament Director know they participated the day of the event.
