The Effects of the Ocean Environment, Including Eddies, on the Catchability of Tuna, Marlin, Sharks and Mahi
When: October 23, 2012Doors will open at 7:00PM, meeting at 7:30PM.
Where: New Lecture Hall
Dr. Mitchell A. Roffer, our October speaker, will discuss the effects of the ocean environment on the catchability of certain game fish, and will include some background information on how and why fish search for their preferred habitat.
Dr. Roffer is President and founder (1986) of Roffer's Ocean Fishing Forecasting Service (ROFFS), Inc. Melbourne, Florida that provides oceanographic consulting services worldwide. He received his doctorate at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science in Biological Oceanography with an emphasis on Fisheries Oceanography.
ROFFS fishing products are designed to provide real-time, value-added, detailed information on ocean currents and fish catchability to help anglers locate concentrations of feeding fish. These "road maps to the fish" are derived from Earth orbiting satellite data which are integrated with information on the ecology of fish. ROFFS integrates infrared, ocean color_chlorophyll, and altimeter satellite data, as well as, HF radar, current meter, and meteorological data to produce detailed oceanographic analyses daily.
The ROFFS Oceanographic Fishing Forecasting Analysis is composed of a map and a text summary that are designed to direct
you to the fish. The map provides a representation of the ocean conditions that we expect you to find during your fishing
trip. The text portion is unique and provides discussion of the present conditions and forecasted fishing action. The analysis
is the result of studying the ocean conditions for several days while focusing on the most current, 1-12, 12-24 hour period. They
provide an overall review of ocean conditions and furnish details on the locations where the conditions suggest that you will
find productive (or non-productive) waters. This is based on their time-tested and field proven analysis techniques. Subtle
changes in the ocean conditions often have great consequences when locating fish. Dr. Roffer will provide a free offshore analyses to all those that attend the event. This is good for one offshore fishing trip, (a $65.00 value) per attendee.
