GOFC Rule Changes for 2010

The GOFC Board voted to change several rules relating to the John Ellett Contest. The following rule changes will go into effect on January 1, 2010:

  1. The one pound minimum weight for Ellett Contest entries has been removed. All entries must comply with Florida Recreational Saltwater Fishing Regulations as posted on www.myfwc.com.

  2. Two additional species were added to the Ellett Contest. The bluefish has been added as an inshore species, and the greater amberjack (commonly referred to as amberjack) has been added as an offshore species. Bluefish weighing 3 pounds or greater, and amberjack weighing 25 pounds or greater must be weighed on Florida or GOFC certified scales, otherwise they will be credited at only 2 lbs 15 oz and 24 lbs 15oz, respectively.

  3. There is now no limit on the number of times the John Ellett Award can be won by a member.

  4. Regarding Ellett Contest Bonus Points: members will be awarded 3 bonus points for participation in each major club tournament (Spring and Fall Tournaments) and 1 bonus point for participation in each funament. The member must weigh-in a fish or sign-in at the event to receive points. It is the member’s responsibility to let the Tournament or Learnament Director know they participated the day of the event.

The GOFC Board also voted to reinstate the "Most Unusual Species" award for 2010.
